360° Feedback / Appraisal

One of the most common ways of gaining an understanding of the level at which individuals are performing is to ask them and the people with whom they work. 360° feedback is the approach that most businesses use to achieve this and Robertson Cooper’s online 360° tool is Perspectives.

When using Perspectives, the reviewee’s role is broken down into the competencies and behaviours required for successful performance. The reviewee is then asked to rate themselves on each behaviour in terms of how effectively he/she has performed it over a given time period. Next, specified colleagues, including the line manager, are also asked to rate the reviewee on the same behaviours. The software then collates the ratings and provides tools for the reviewee and his/her line manager to build a developmental action plan. Perspectives can form an effective part of an organisation-wide appraisal process.
