The model behind ASSET was originally derived from academic research and has been developed based on our practical experience of implementing it in client organisations.
Our research has established that there are a number of factors that act as either barriers (if the organisation gets them wrong) or enablers (if the organisation gets them right) to productivity. When these aspects of working life are well managed the workforce has good levels of Psychological Well-Being (PWB) and Engagement.
Employees who have a strong sense of purpose and well-being, while also being engaged by their role in helping the organisation to achieve its business objectives, deliver positive behaviour and outcomes.
And the research bears this out – for example, a study by Harter, Schmidt and Hayes (2002) has shown that well-being plays a central role in delivering most of the important outcomes that are associated with successful organisations. Data from nearly 8,000 separate business units in 36 companies were analysed and revealed that engagement / well-being was linked to business unit performance predicting, among other things, customer satisfaction, productivity, profitability, employee turnover and sickness absence levels.
